A traditional wood-burning heater or a modern electric heater - which is the best?
As the decision is very personal, it's impossible to say that one or the other is the best choice for everyone. Here are some details about each that we will help you choose the one that best fits your lifestyle.
The wood-burning heater is the most traditional option. If you install your sauna in a location without easy access to electricity and know how to light a fire yourself, the wood-burning heater is an excellent choice that we highly recommend. With this option, you can choose between an inside- or outside-feed for the wood.
The electric heater is preferred by some people because it’s convenient and simple to use. It can be turned on and off with just the click of a button. Plus, you don't have to worry about acquiring or storing any firewood.
Both heaters will offer a powerful heat experience that will have you enjoying your sauna for years to come.

Adding a porch and/or a changeroom will make your sauna much more sophisticated, beautiful and practical.
A changeroom is an excellent choice for colder climates or areas where weather can change unexpectedly. This space allows you to transition more easily between the hot sauna and cold exterior. The changeroom adds 4 feet to your sauna.
The porch provides a sheltered space for cooling off post-sauna and keeping rain and snow away from your door. The porch adds 2 feet to your sauna.

The extra roof for these saunas is optional. The barrel design will keep practically all rain water out of the sauna, but after dry periods (when the wood dries and contracts), a few drops of water might seep in through the wood. While this won't decrease the sauna life span, it’s an aesthetic issue for some people.
The EPDM Rubber Roof upgrade makes the sauna 100% waterproof. A high-density rubber (designed especially for use in roofs) is held in place by full length cedar slats to maintain the natural appearance of your sauna.
The wooden cove is a good alternative if you don't select a porch. It keeps the rain and snow away from the sauna door, and provides a unique, finished appearance.

The window in the door comes standard with all saunas. You have the option to add additional windows in two locations: the front and the back wall. The front wall windows on both sides of the door let in a lot of natural light. If you select the changeroom option, you can also add extra windows next to that door. It is nice to sit in the changeroom between sauna sessions, and to be able to see out.
With electric heaters, it's possible to have a window on the back wall as well. You can choose to have a 20 inch by 30 inch window, to let in more natural light.

Every sauna includes standard benches. You can opt to keep the standard benches however we recommend adding a flat floor. A level surface makes it more comfortable to walk inside the sauna.
You can also choose one of these bench upgrades:
The Signature Upgrade includes curved, park-style benches, giving the sauna a very detailed and finished look. This upgrade includes a flat floor.
The Lounge Upgrade (available with 7'x7' and 7'x8' saunas) gives you the option to turn your flat bench into a personalized lounge chair. The reclining option gives support to your back and legs which offers the ultimate relaxation experience. This upgrade includes a flat floor.
Both Signature and Lounge upgrades come with cedar slats between the bench and the flat floor. It gives the sauna a very sophisticated look. Both upgrades also include the full length backrests inside the sauna (choose this option also changeroom if you'd like the benches to match).

All Dundalk saunas and hot tubs are custom made to order, and delivered as a crated pre-fabricated kit to you. Manufacturing the saunas and hot tubs takes 15-20 weeks and shipping takes about 5-7 days.
The products are delivered in a 7/16" thick plywood crates. The size varies based on the product size, and they look like this:
This kind of crating guarantees that you receive the sauna or hot tub kit in the same condition as it left the factory.
Free shipping is free to a loading dock, such as a shipping terminal near you. If you can arrange your own transportation from there on, that's great! If not, no worries! We have extra services available to have the product sent straight to your home. For smaller saunas and hot tubs, this residential delivery service includes liftgate service, so that the crate is unloaded from the delivery truck to the curbside at your home.
Liftgate deliveries are only available on the 92" or shorter sauna crates. Most saunas need 2 people & lifting equipment, or the building crew on-site to help with the unloading. Sometimes the cheapest option for the larger saunas may be to have it delivered to the nearest terminal, and renting a truck or a trailer to move it from there to your home or cabin.

The sauna crate sizes vary from 84" x 45" 32" weighing 680 lbs (smallest indoor cabin saunas) to 174" x 45" x 42" with 1765 lbs weight (8x8 ft. Pod sauna room with 4 ft. changeroom and 2 ft. porch). For most saunas, you can find the crate dimensions & weight information in the specification / measurement files. If you have questions about the dimensions or weight, please contact us.
The residential deliveries are only available to easy access areas (with "normal" roads where trucks can drive easily). Depending on the situation, there might be extra costs associated with hard to reach areas, such as cabins. If unsure, please contact us and we will get you a shipping quote.

When receiving any freight shipment such as the sauna crate, there are two important things to check:
Please check the delivery receipt / bill of lading. It will show how many crates, boxes or other items there should be total. Make sure the numbers match with what you're getting.
If there are shipping damages:
With freight shipments there are generally two types of damage that can occur:
With Dundalk crates the concealed damage is rare, as the wood parts are not easily damaged. If there are any damages or item shortages, make a note of these on the delivery receipt. It is important to be specific, so later insurance claims can be processed quickly and easily. It is also recommended to take pictures of the damage if you can. Visible damage needs to be reported on the delivery receipt, and concealed damages within 72 hours.

That's why I teamed up with Timo the Saunaman, who has been designing and building custom saunas in the United States for 25 years. Timo, also known as Timo the Saunaman, was also born in Finland. He's been living in the US for most of his life, and has been designing and building saunas for the US market since 1995. He focuses on designing custom built traditional Finnish style saunas. He has worked together with Finnleo and Finlandia Saunas on projects ranging from small home saunas to large commercial and governmental projects.
Timo was also chosen and given the honor of designing and specifying materials for the early 1900's log sauna restoration project at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle, WA.
Together with Timo's decades of sauna design experience, we are able to tackle any sauna related challenge!
